Fun fact: a ‘91 Chevy Lumina sedan was the first car I ever drove at the age of 9 after riding in it almost every day of my life to that point , and I drove it to its final resting place in the junkyard since it was our fourth car at the time and had a leaky rear main seal but was otherwise perfect (except for the clearcoat) with over 310,000 miles on it . I have an immense amount of nostalgia for these godawful rental shitboxes and I swear I’ll own one someday and basically do the above photo to it, and probably involving some manner of 3800 Series II and a Getrag 284.

Well it was a 4 dr Beretta, which was basically a sports car. At least that’s what Chevy told us.

My '91 grand Prix with the 3.1 ran fantastic and didn't burn any oil when I sold it in 2001 with 250,000 miles. I liked it more than the 2004 GXP I owned much later.

If that was your family’s fourth car, what were the other three?

I suppose the first car I got moving was our family’s Mazda 626 when I was a young kid on summer break. I must’ve been around 4-5 years old; I remember it was a nice day and my mom was cleaning the car interior in our driveway . She ran inside briefly to do something and I must’ve pulled the handbrake since the car slowly rolled backwards onto our neighbour’s lawn (I believe I was just “pretend” driving at the time).

Mom ran out the house freaking out but I enjoyed my brief excursion. It was a very quiet residential area so there wasn’t much of a chance of hurting myself, but thank fuck that some other poor stranger wasn’t behind me at the time.

That was the first time I “drove” a manual car, something I wouldn’t do again until I was 28 years old, and that was only marginally better than my first time.

It’s much larger than a Beretta. W body platform (Grand Prix, etc.) , not L body (Cavalier, etc.), and was available as both a two door and four door.

At that time we had:
2000 Buick LeSabre
1980-something Chevy Malibu station wagon
1996 Chrysler LHS

We had an LHS for like 3 months. It was broken all of it. This was like in 1998-99, so it was still fairly new.

Okay, then I remembered it wrong. It’s the Corsica. I was thinking of the Corsica, not the Lumina

Um, it was a 4 door version of the 2 door Lumina.

The 4 dr Beretta was the Corsica.

I feel like the Lumina of that era has aged very well.

Yeah, I remembered that later (see my answer to Jake after he corrected me). My brain was not functioning well.

A SC 3800 Lumina would be amazing!

I almost got a z34 coupe but that sedan looks lovely, I've always though they were good looking, just never driven one but GM makes me want.

I just love the interior so much. Horizontal strip of instruments, super overstuffed plush seats, super clicky switches.

I feel like every time I see someone mention one of these godawful rental shitboxes, it’s in the context of how actually-not-godawful they were.
